Trimdon Village

Trimdon Village was traditionally a rural farming community but after the Second World War a new housing estate was built to accommodate workers for the nearby collieries.

The village is located on the B1276 (Salters Lane) to the north of Sedgefield and Fishburn.

St Mary Magdalene Church is situated in the centre of the old village on the Village Green and is reputed to be one of only two churches with a horseshoe arch. The old Church Graveyard was recently re-opened in order to take cremated remains.

The green areas in front of Front Street North and Front Street South are registered village greens to protect them from any future development.

The village also boasts a Millennium Green in the southern part of the village and a Millennium Cross is erected at the western end of Front Street North.

Local facilities include a Play Park at Skerne Avenue, a small shopping centre on Church Road, including a new combined Co-op Store and Library, a Village Hall adjacent to the Millennium Green, an Infant and Nursery School and a Junior School, incorporating a Community Association, in Elwick View.

The Community Centre provides facilities for the surrounding villages and has four football pitches and a cricket pitch.
